LAWRENCE LAB MISSION

The MISSION of the Lawrence Lab is to enable discovery in the field of cellular stress response. Our approach is by its design interdisciplinary: we combine tools from biochemistry, cell biology, neuroscience, and physiology. This means we must build a diverse team of scientists with different points of view who can come together and generate new knowledge that is greater than the sum of its parts.

We VALUE creating an environment in which lab members are empowered to take on the unknown. We emphasize training, effective mentoring, and collaboration, and believe all lab members bring with them skills and experiences that enable them to contribute ideas, resources, and feedback to lab science and lab culture. We believe an optimal lab culture is enabled when all lab members are empowered to both support one another and to work toward their personalized professional goals.

We INCLUDE members from all backgrounds and identities of race, gender, sexual identity, socieconomic and disability status. We work to create a community where all are welcome, and to actively dismantle barriers to participation.

We LEARN as we go. We will seek input from lab members annually to review and revise our lab mission statement.
